Our Trainers

The personal trainers at Chris’ Gym are passionate about your health and are committed to helping you reach your personal fitness goals.

The gym is run by Andrea and Rebecca and they are always around to discuss your needs and help you with anything that you are having difficulty with. Both Andrea and Rebecca are university trained trainers and between them they have an array of knowledge of health and fitness. They will know your name when you walk through the door and make sure that you get the right personal training experience for you. 

The entire team are here to help and really enjoy working with you in personal training sessions that are individually tailored to your needs. Chris’ Gym Personal Trainers will provide you with a program that will vary in activity and intensity to keep things fresh and challenging and make sure every session is satisfying.

Chris Tayler

Personal Trainer

Experience

Chris completed his Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Physical Education and a Graduate Diploma in Outdoor Education in the late 1980s. He began working in gyms as a part time job in 1984 and ultimately turned his university job into his passion and a career.

In early 1990 Chris recognised a desire in the fitness marketplace for a higher quality of fitness instruction and he opened the forerunner of Chris' Gym just a few doors down in Burwood Road.

Our gym was only the second personal training facility in Melbourne and for many years set the standard of what could be achieved in a dedicated personal fitness gymnasium.

Over nearly 30 years in the fitness industry Chris has prescribed exercise for many thousands of people, covering Olympic athletes, the old and the young, disabled clients, and just your normal Hawthorn Mums and Dads looking to improve their fitness.

Philosophy

Chris subscribes to the Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang and likes to bring some balance to the lives of his clients. He believes one should enjoy many of the finer pleasures in life, but one must balance that with an appropriate amount of hard labour in the gym!

Quote that inspires me

Chris' favourite quote comes from noted philosopher Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength" (must be read with an Austrian accent).

Andrea Baylis

Gym Owner and Personal Trainer

Philosophy

Along with managing Chris' Gym, Andrea has the ability to connect with her personal training clients and to understand what they are seeking to achieve, both physically and mentally. Her positive and encouraging approach helps to eliminate self-doubt and to set her clients up for success at achieving their goals.

Qualifications

In addition to her tertiary qualifications, Andrea holds a Certificate III and IV in Fitness, Punchfit instructor and TRX trainer accreditation.

James Schubert

Personal Trainer

Philosophy

Every person should have their own approach to achieving their own health and fitness goals. There's no one size fits all. I specialise in tailoring plans specific to the needs of each individual. I am experienced in weight loss, nutrition, muscle gain and I love to run boxing sessions with my clients.

Growing up I participated in many different sports. This fostered a passion for improvement, which introduced me to the personal training industry. Since starting out as a personal trainer in 2014 I have found much satisfaction in helping my clients achieve their goals.

Qualifications

I hold a Certificate IV in Fitness and a Certificate 3 in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Punchfit accreditation.

Tim Walker

Personal Trainer

Philosophy

Tim has a passion for getting the most out of his clients and strives ti not only develop them during training sessions but also educate them on the how and why of training.

Tim's passion for sport, health and fitness began at an early age with his commitment to excel and constantly improve having been epitomised by representing Victoria in both men's and mixed netball as well as in american football.

Tim is currently completing a Master of Exercise Science and specialises in; training for athletic performance, strength and conditioning, injury rehabilitation and prevention, sports psychology and goal setting and weight management.

Sean Gorton

Personal Trainer

Philosophy

Anyone can be great; it's the sacrifices and determination that will get you there. I believe the key to success is in living a healthy lifestyle in both nutrition and exercise while teaching the body and mind to adapt in it's optimal form. I approach every client with a different attitude, specifically tailoring their needs and wants in a sustainable goal. Being someone who is passionate about what they do, I strive for excellence with my clients through the means of education, mindset and resilience. I have consistently immersed myself in to the world of fitness byt constantly surrounding myself with mentors and like minded people to learn, grow and succeed in what I do.

Specialty

I specialise in strength and conditioning for performance based results and sports, military and emergency services training, hypertrophy, fat loss, bootcamps, goal setting and physical and mental toughness.

My passion for fitness comes from an early age, playing a number of sports from rugby league and union to baseball. I also served in the Australian Defence Force for several years as infantryman where I was deployed overseas operations. This has taught me vital life skills while also leading me back to my passion for training.

Qualifications

Currently studying a Bachelor of Sports and Business Management, Certificate III and IV in Fitness and PErsonal Training and ASCA Level 1.

Calum Wilson

Personal Trainer

General Approach to Fitness and Health

Coming from a background in team sport, mostly football, I have an excellent understanding of strength and conditioning for athletic performance. Using these principles I can apply my knowledge to achieve a range of client's goals.

I am currently completing a Bachelor of Sport and exercise Science at Deakin University. This has lead to an internship at the Oakleigh Chargess football Club (TAC Cup) where I work in the high performance team to develop young footballers. Along with that, I teach reformer Pilates helping clients achieve more strength throughout their body.

Currently completely Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Science, Certificate III and IV in Fitness and Certificate IV in Alllied Health Assistance.
